Luis Enrique unveiled his 24-man team for the forthcoming UEFA EURO 2020 tournament on Monday, May 24th. However, there is enormously questions following the Spain squad selection since no Madrid player is on the team. This will be the first time in Spain football history that no Real Madrid player represents the La Furia Roja in the international tournament. The Spain boss, Luis Enrique, has been accused of discriminating against Real Madrid players. The fact, he is a former Barcelona manager, the eternal rival of Real Real Madrid, became the first reason for such accusation.

The Enrique Background

The status as Barcelona legend makes most people forget that he was played for Real Madrid from 1991 until 1996. After present several trophies during his five years tenure at Santiago Bernabeu, Enrique left for Barca in 1996 on a free transfer, saying he felt unappreciated in the Spanish capital. Luis Enrique has a messy breakup with Real Madrid that lead to high tension with Madridista. The climax is when he celebrated his goal by showing the Barcelona emblem in his jersey right in front of Real Madrid fans in Santiago Bernabeu.

“I see myself on stickers and on television and I feel weird in white, I think the blue and purple suit me much better.”

Potential Madrid Players in the Squad

For a long history of the club, Real Madrid always has many Spanish talented players. In this season, at least seven candidates fill the spot in Spain national teams, such as Sergio Ramos, Lucas Vazquez, Isco Alarcón, Marco Asensio, Alvaro Odriozola, Nacho and Dani Carvajal. From that list, Sergio Ramos has been left out of the Spain squad for this summer’s due to his fitness condition and will be replaced by Aymeric Laporte, who recently declared to represent the Spanish national team. He received Spanish citizenship earlier this month after struggled to break into the France squad. Similar to Ramos, fitness condition became the reason Dani Carvajal did not get the call. Enrique adds that the rest of Real Madrid player that has missed the Euro are based on the lack of performance and tactical requirement considerations.

The manager’s choice is became more bizarre and surprising many people since he chose to leave numerous Real Madrid stars at home while only bring 24 players to the tournament out of a maximum of 26 spots. In response to the shocking news, Ramos stated that though missing Euro 2020 pains him, he would still support his nation in the tournament and wishes them the best of luck.

Is Enrique Anti-Real Madrid

Enrique never discriminates against Real Madrid players throughout his tenure as manager of the Spanish national team; this fact will prove that the allegations are untrue. In the last few years, Sergio Ramos has become a key figure for Spain under Enrique.

In the interview with the Spanish Media, Luis Enrique explained that he has no problem with Real Madrid player and not anti-Madrid; instead, he had to leave several Real Madrid players due to poor fitness and strategic considerations. He has been closely monitoring the progress of Sergio Ramos. Still, unfortunately, the Spanish national team captain is not yet fit and cannot be featured in the EURO 2020 with La Furia Roja.

He might have a lousy relationship with Real Madrid in the past, but as the manager of the Spain national team, Enrique has shown that he can act in the highest manner of professionalism. The fact that there is no Real Madrid player in the Spain national team is pure because of a series of unfortunate situations with injury on the Real Madrid players, which is also the biggest Zidane problem throughout this campaign.
