The Legacy of Arsene Wenger

“When Ferguson left Manchester United, he had horses for his retirement but Wenger did not have anything except his loyalty for Arsenal”

The Beginning

This story began in 1996 when the chairman of Arsenal Football club invited Arsene Wenger to discuss the opportunity to manage the club. The discussion went well, and Arsen Wenger became Arsenal manager. Starting his career in Arsenal from 1996 until 2018, he was the longest-serving and most successful manager in the club’s history. The nickname “Le Professeur” is used by fans and the British media to reflect Wenger’s studious demeanor. His approach to the game emphasizes an attacking mentality to create an entertaining football style. In the 22 years serving the club, he bought Arsenal in the top four of the Premier league table 20 times in a row. After he left, no Arsenal manager can replicate such achievement.

Before Arsene Wenger came to the Highbury stadium, the most successful Arsenal manager was Herbert Chapman, George Allison, Tom Whittaker, and George Graham, each with 2 England first division titles.

Wenger won the Premier League three times, 1997/98, 2001/02, and 2003/04. The victory became more special since Le Professeur managed an undefeated domestic league season in the 2003/04 campaign.

The industry is called football.

When Roman Abramovich took over Chelsea in June 2003, he not only changed the blues fortune but changed the entire football industry in England. With their old-fashion financial power, Arsenal got hit into the ground, since not long after Roman came to the Premier League, many investors came and put their money into the game, with the famous acquisition in Manchester city and QPR.

The one problem with modern-day football is impatience has taken over. Most of the time, money can change a football club’s fortunes so quickly, like Chelsea and Manchester City. Arsene was aware of the circumstances, but despite the club’s financial problem in 2006–2010, he decided to keep his rose-tinted glasses on and kept looking back at how things used to be and possibly convincing himself nothing has changed.

Le Professeur is still loyal to his philosophy even though it is nearly impossible to bring his victorious time back with the old school style. Times went by, and the situation got horribly wrong, then the fans started to doubt his management style. This is the start of a ruthless ending for the legendary manager.

All great teams, people, and organizations have their day, and few retire at the top. Sadly, Wenger left when his solid reputation has been ruined.

The End

Arsene Wenger deserves more appreciation for his 22 years of success, but sometimes, you will never realize the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory. This man has devoted his entire life to Arsenal, costing his marriage and family but must be left with the worst kind of scenario when the fans push him out with the “Wenger Out” banner everywhere.

The story of Arsene Wenger in Arsenal is similar to Vincent Van Gogh. He was a Dutch painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in history. He is a revolutionary painter from a very young age, but Van Gogh was considered unsuccessful during his lifetime. He was rated a failure madman and started becoming famous after his death. In the public imagination, he exists as a misunderstood genius, the artist “where discourses on madness and creativity converge”.

Unai Emery was appointed as head coach in May 2018, and it closed a chapter of Arsenal’s most remarkable history and the end of Wenger 22 years of devotion to Arsenal. When Ferguson left Manchester United, he had horses for his retirement, but Wenger did not have anything except his loyalty to Arsenal.
