In the last five years, many foreign tech professionals from India, Taiwan, Malaysia and other Asian countries have been interested in working in Indonesian’s startup company. Still, they have a problem gaining information on employment law. Here is the most frequent question regarding the maximum working period for foreign tech professionals to work in Indonesian’s startup company.

Foreign workers in Indonesia can only be employed with a temporary employment contract. Not all positions are open, but most tech sectors are available for foreign employees. The employment regulation regulates that foreign workers should have competence according to the job.

In general, an employment contract should be drafted with a maximum five years period. The contract can be extended for a specific time but not exceed five years. In this case, whether for foreign tech professionals in startup companies or other types of business, there is no special provision regarding the working period.
